Great Ormond Street Hospital is a world-renowned centre for specialist paediatric care and research. Every year, the hospital's specialised doctors and nurses care for 90,000 children from both the UK and abroad.
Most of these children are suffering from rare, complex and often life threatening conditions. It is the largest UK centre for heart and brain operations in children, and sees one child in ten diagnosed with cancer.
The hospital and its research arm, the Institute of Child Health (ICH) have pioneered techniques for open-heart surgery and bone marrow transplants, and developed new
drugs for epilepsy, juvenile arthritis and HIV/AIDS. The Institute is also the leading British academic research institution for child health. |
